Gardener’s World
Post Production services for live shows.
Packed with good ideas, tips, advice from experts Gardener’s World has been helping viewers to get the most out of their gardens for over 20 years and Films at 59 is proud to have provided full post production and location services for the latest series.
Post Producer, Natalie Forster, has been managing the series and says ‘it is a privilege and a lot of fun working alongside such an experienced production team. We deliver nearly 40 episodes in as many weeks and we have all been loving the fast turnaround nature of series, there is never a dull moment!
The series includes four Gardeners World Live episodes that are delivered from locations nationwide with Films at 59 managing the ingest and edit facilities as well as providing Technical Engineers and Edit Assistants to ensure seamless and timely delivery of these topical shows.
Engineer Mark Aartse-Tuyn was central to the planning and delivery of these specials. As Mark explains, ‘the fast-turnaround RHS and Live shows were all shot, ingested, edited, and delivered entirely on location — with TX only hours after filming wrapped’.
‘With such a tight deadline, we used a satellite link to deliver the show. Supplying post-production services from makeshift cabins in the field comes with no shortage of challenges—power supply, networking, media storage and internet connectivity—all while contending with the unpredictability of British weather! From the crack of dawn, multiple camera crews were filming simultaneously, sending cards back to the ingest team every 30 minutes to be offloaded, consolidated, backed up and supplied to the editors, who would often work into the early hours. Once the final cut was locked, we ran a few last checks to make sure everything met broadcast standards before playing the show out via satellite truck’.
For Natalie, who oversees the end-to-end process of the Lives, ‘it is a highly rewarding experience, culminating in the successful broadcast on Friday night—a proud moment for the entire team’.
For Mark ‘Post‑engineering is typically far removed from the production process and it was a privilege to be immersed in the action and collaborate with such a great team’.
